Anyone who rows will tell you that a coach is worth his or her weight in gold to a crew. A good coach can see potential in any crew and can help them realise that potential.
BARC has a core of lead coaches for each squad but there is always room for more and we welcome people with any level of experience and plenty of enthusiasm! Your coaching can be as involved as you are able to commit to. Crews need training plans, advice about technique, as well as motivation, and team-building during the approach to a race. They also need someone to coach them from the bank on a Sunday morning, who is able to provide valuable feedback, the important thing is to get involved!
Coaching gives you the chance to develop yourself as well as developing the rowers with whom you are working, and ultimately the greatest satisfaction is helping them achieve their goals.
It is possible to complete official coaching qualifications and the Club is happy to support and mentor people who wish to follow this path. Please contact the Club for more information.
