As I write as Bradford is in a new form of lockdown, reminding us that we are, indeed, living through difficult times.

Our sport has been reshaped during the crisis and it is thanks to Laura and her capacity to interpret the guidance released by British Rowing and the Government that many BARC members are enjoying our river. I have had conversations with some from other clubs who have not got to this point for a variety of reasons so, we owe Laura a debt of gratitude.

Throughout all of the situation we have endeavoured to keep you, our members, safe.

The lock-down has brought into sharp focus the things that matter and those which don’t. Members have described the simple joy of being outdoors in a green space, observing wildlife and the changing seasons and how this has impacted positively on their mental wellbeing, in a time when everything seemed to be going to pot.

I need not remind you that we are a membership club and without you, our members, there is no club. There will be news about membership coming your way soon, suffice to say there is no fee increase and those who have had little or no benefit from membership in 2020 can opt for Supporter Membership, until we can get you out on the water or in the gym again.

The committee have continued to meet via Zoom and we held several Zoom Quiz nights and our virtual regatta via the wonder of video conferencing – all of which were great club occasions.

I hope you and your loved ones continue to remain well and that we can all be back together for a big BARC bash once all this is over!

Yours, Celia Hickson, BARC President
